Conoco Gas Station

ConocoPhillips is the fifth largest private sector energy corporation in the world and it currently sells fuel under the brands Conoco, Phillip 66 and Union 76. In August, 2002 when Conoco Inc and Phillips Petroleum Company forged a merger the ConocoPhillips brand was born.

Conoco Inc

Founded by Issac E. Blake out of an idea that he had to make kerosene more affordable to the townspeople in Ogden, Utah, the Continental Oil and Transportation Company was born in 1875. Continental shortly after became a top marketer of petroleum products just about the time that cars took to the road and managed to build the first filling station that the West had ever seen in the year 1909. This station was soon to be the first of many as in the next 20 years the company built over 1,000 service stations in 15 states.

In 1929 under the management of Dan Moran, Maryland Oil Company merged with Continental Oil and Transportation Co. Based in Ponca City the new company was named the Continental Oil Company. At this time to new company owned nearly 3,000 wells and thousands of retail outlets in 30 states.

Phillips Petroleum Company

The Phillips Petroleum Company was founded by brothers Frank and L.E. Phillips twelve years after they began a quest for oil deposits in Oklahoma. In the years following, the company contributed to many new developments in the petroleum industry.

In 1952, Phillips expanded the company's offerings and growth with the opening of Phillips 66 gas stations in Texas and Louisiana.

In November 2001, Conoco formed a merger with Phillips Co. After the merger was completed in 2002 the company ConocoPhillips became the third largest publicly traded company in the United States and the sixth in the world.

Union 76 gas stations which were acquired by Phillips from Tosco Corporation underwent a series of rebranding after a very public campaign during the years 2005-2007.

People who want to earn rewards on their Phillips 66 and Conoco 76 gasoline purchases can apply for the Phillips 66-Conoco 76 Platinum MasterCard. The MasterCard is available in regular and platinum and the interest rates vary between 19.99% and 23.9%. There are no annual fees on the card and you will be eligible for 4% back on purchases made at any Phillips, Conoco or 76 gas stations.

Since the rebates are limited to purchases at these stations it is advised that you only get the card if you purchase your fuel there.
