Exxon Gas Station
Formerly known as the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, Exxon is today identified by their series of service stations across the nations as well as through their series of products for motors from ExxonMobil.
Over their more than 125 years in existence the ExxonMobil brand have grown from their original provision of kerosene to the largest publicly traded petroleum and petrochemical corporation in the world. With locations in almost every country around the world they are easily identified by their brands, Exxon, Esso and Mobil. Exxon has played a significant role in America's history as they were the ones who provided the fuel and lubricant for the Wright's Brothers first flight and for Amelia Earhart and Charles Lindbergh also. Their commitment to research and development of bigger and better products lead to the development of stronger grades of plastic and improved rubber for tires (1937).
In 1966 Mobil celebrates an accomplishment of 100 years since the founding of the Vacuum Oil Company. This event prompts a name change to Mobil Oil Corporation and an extensive campaign to promote the new Mobil trade name to the public.
Some years later in 1972 Jersey Standard officially becomes the Exxon Corporation after the name change was approved by Jersey Standard shareholders in a specially called meeting. Ten years later the company celebrates 100 years since the formation of the Standard Oil Trust in 1882. During those years the company made great strides moving from a domestic refiner and distributor of Kerosene to a large multinational corporation that is involved in multiple aspects of the petroleum industry. By this time they have sectors of the company involved in oil and gas exploration, production, refining and marketing and petrochemicals manufacturing.
The technology only got better and better at Exxon with the introduction of Speedpass (the very same technology that is utilized in subways, buses, and highways around the world) at the pumps which charges purchases to a credit card and automatically activates the pumps.
Finally after much deliberation both Exxon and Mobil joined forces to become the ExxonMobil Corporation in November 1999. This merger has helped them to become a major competitor in the industry.
Today Exxon Mobil is the largest fuel distribution company in the United States with over 11,000 retail locations across the country.
